Why Your Dog Might Be a Better Listener Than You

Posted on Friday, July 8, 2022 by Carlos and Amy

Hey there K-LOVE family! It’s Carlos and Amy, coming at you with another crucial deep dive into life’s mysteries…

Like, for example:
Why does your dog seem to listen better than you do? 🐶

(Okay, okay, than we do… because we’re guilty too!)

1. Dogs Actually Pause When You Speak

When you say, “Who’s a good boy?!” your dog tilts his head and waits. We, on the other hand, often jump in with our own story about our second cousin’s parakeet before the other person even finishes their sentence.

Let’s be honest, the head tilt might be cuter.

2. Dogs Don’t Multitask

Your dog isn’t scrolling Instagram or replying to texts when you talk. They’re fully present — probably because they have literally nothing else to do. But still. We could all take a note from their book (er… paw diary?).

3. Dogs Love to Just Be With You

They don’t need to solve your problems. They just sit by your side, tail thumping, happy you’re there. Sometimes the best listening isn’t offering advice — it’s simply being there.

A Little Heart Check ❤️

James 1:19 says:

“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”

We can learn from our four-legged friends. God wired us for relationship — with Him and each other — and that starts with being fully present.

So next time someone’s sharing their heart, maybe take a tip from your dog:
Lean in, tilt your head, and wag your tail. (Okay, maybe skip the last one… unless it feels right.)

Go Love Big Today 🐾

Whether you’re listening to your spouse, your coworker, your kid, or the barista who wants to tell you about her cat’s Instagram — be there for it. You might be the only person who truly listens to them today.

We’re rooting for you (and so is your dog).
