LOCAL Closer Look: Detective Theresa Schrimpsher

Posted on Friday, November 4, 2022 by Becky Hansen

We talked about the structure of the Covington Department and the kinds of crime typical in the community and her role in reacting to and also preventing those crimes; felonies that aren't murders or sexual.  They collaborate with local agencies, give support to neighborhood watch, accept volunteers and have a citizen's academy. We talked about how the internet and social media can help in the work that they do.  We discussed various crime concerns; car prowl, vehicle prowl, burglary.  Also about the continuous growth of the community.  She suggested that people "go with their gut" and report crimes.  She talked about online reporting which sounds quite convenient!  Chief McCurdy has a training background and encourages ongoing training in the department.  We talked about the challenges they face with time crunches, statute of limitations.  Also talked about annual events; Purple Light Nights which focuses on Domestic Violence.
