Reward Her For All She Has Done!

“Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: 'There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!' Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.” -Proverbs 31:28-31 (NLT)

When I was five years old, my dad left, and my mom was forced to raise me and my three siblings by herself. Even though she was experiencing incredible pain, she continued to push forward for the three of us. She loved us deeply. She would work two jobs and then come home and cook dinner for us. She was determined her children would succeed. Now, as an adult, I look for ways I can serve, bless and honor her.

Decades later, I now get to witness what a great mother my wife is to our children. Not only does she work a full-time job outside our home, but she manages the house. Our kids are not just taken care of, they are loved beyond measure. I can't wait to come home in the evenings because of the ways my wife cares for our home and our family. She sets a high standard of virtue for our kids to follow. She loves the Lord, and our children know it. She is worthy of honor, and I strive to bless her by giving her praise and showing her, through my actions, that she is special.

As men, there is something powerful about honoring the women in our lives. Our words are important, but when combined with action, they are life-changing! Both my mom and my wife are worthy of honor. And Mother's Day is a great reminder that they deserve honor every day. Showing honor doesn't have to be flashy or even time-consuming. It can be as simple as intentionally using words of loving affirmation or even taking out the trash without being asked.

Mother's Day is just one day out of 365, but it's a good reminder of how I need to treat my wife and mother every day. This Mother's Day, together, let's resolve to honor the women in our lives with consistent respect, love and care. It's biblical, and trust me, it matters more than you know.

Reflect and Respond

  1. This Mother's Day, what's one thing you can do to honor your mother and/or the mother of your children?
  2. Read Proverbs 31:10-31 and Philippians 4:8. With these verses in mind, make a list of qualities you admire most about your mother and/or your wife. Then share this list with her for Mother's Day.
